ammar, a severely malnourished child, waits for an ambulance (he will be taken directly to hospital) within a medical clinic in the hasansham camp. due to extreme food shortages within the isis controlled neighborhoods of mosul, the baby has only been fed rice water for the past 4 months. wafaa was recently able to flee and came directly to the hasandham camp.

with residents streaming into the camp from mosul the medical team is seeing an increasing number of malnourished children. according to recent reports, people trapped within isis-held districts are existing on rice and flour water and some have turned to eating grass and pets. .

several hundred thousand civilians are still trapped within the old city of mosul facing extreme food and electricity shortages. iraqi forces with coalition support are closing in on mosul’s old city. the still occupied old city will be isis’s last stand; due to the density of the neighborhood, fighting is expected to pose extreme threats to the nearly 200,000 trapped civilians .
