beirut is an amazing city, but it is also one whose once beautiful coast has been bought and sold. when i first arrived i couldn’t wait to touch the mediterranean — i soon learned that the gross majority of the coast of beirut has been closed to citizens and turned into hotels, restaurants and private homes. 

needing reprieve from the traffic and the general busyness of the city i climbed down over the guardrail today and sat cliffside with a book reading and just listening to the steady, reassuring sound of the ocean waves
