jozo / by Maranie Staab

jozo grgic, of bosnia-herzogovina, left his country nearly a decade ago and has been in pittsburgh for the past 8 of those years.

initially a bit stand-offish, jozo opened up after i shared a bit about my experiences in his country in 2011 and 2014. he told me about his hometown (located outside of mostar), his despair over his country’s inability to rebound after the end of the war, and that he would never be able to understand wars that were fought in the name of religion.
